Notice how in the books “Fahrenheit 451″, “1984″, “Brave New World”, “Repent Harlequin, Said The Tick-Tock Man” the revolutionary is on the inside? Always it seems that the inside man sees more than the general populace. This is a true statement; he is a better position to see what the sheep cannot. He is defeated in the end by the society he so recently upheld, but still there is a hope for the reader that maybe he effected a change, maybe his small actions started a chain reaction… A small hope to be sure, but hope non-the-less. I think that this is the point of these books, to bring awareness to our condition and inspire us to move. Hope is essential for any revolutionist, hope and belief. If a man does not believe what he is doing is right, why do it? If he has no passion, no spirit, he is just going through the motions. In the movie “Serenity” Shepherd Book told the main character that he did not care what just so long as he believed. A man must have a drive if he is to survive as anything but a cog in a machine, he must have a passion, a firm belief. A man who believes is hard to dissuade. So, what is it that is right to believe? Is it right to side with the society that is, quote-unquote, oppressing the people or side with the rogue, the maverick? Well that depends… What are your beliefs?

Feel like… Writing.

I feel like writing; what I would write I don’t know but I fell the need to express… something. So here goes I am writing, spelling and actively thinking of the finger positions to type the proper arrangement of words. What I am not thinking of is what to write. I just type and the words flow from some nether region in my brain with unceasing clarity but not sense. I see the words come, a queue lining up to fall from my mind to the page. I watch them fall like golden snowflakes catching the phosphorescent rays of my screen before appearing therein. Stop. Pause. Let the queue rearrange itself, let the words get back in order, herd them back to their place… and the words keep coming, an inexhaustible supply, recycled and remade, new and old, unused and abused, a never ending supply line. Say what you say and say it well, don’t think of tomorrow for it wont come and think not on today for its all ready done and just look at the space your in and imagine…

conversation with a friend
April 4, 2008 · 2 Comments
Sitting on my balcony watching the lights blink back and forth at each other, the cars whiz silently by on invisible strips of blacktop. To my left my friend says something, I don’t really know what but I grunt at appropriate times; I catch the highlights. Moment of silence, I puff my cigarillo, watch the smoke drift away… I say something, not really thinking about it, just conversing. Music plays in the background, I can hear the neighbors playing rock band and I smile. I finish my scotch, I have long ago finished my cigarillo. My friend continues with his discussion of people, I nod and laugh at something he has just said. A moment passes where nothing is said, I say something, he agrees… Soon it begins to rain, I say it’s getting cold and rainy, let’s go inside. Inside we just sit some more without talking and listen to music. My friend goes home and I sit down to type this…
